EDGE projects

EDGE2 isthmus

METHODOLOGY

In the EDGE2 Methodology there are six sample activities for each learning outcome.

The activities follow the PRESENTATION (Activity 1), PRACTICE (Activity 2, 3, 4), PRODUCTION (Activity 5,6) approach.

The activities in this project are content based.

They draw on the EDGE2 Isthmus resources. Most of the resources for the activities are online, as part of this website. The activities are progressive. Each stage provides support for the next stage.

PRESENTATION (Activity 1): The teacher presents the material, for example as a listening, or reading activity. There are simple questions designed to help students gain a global understanding of the text. For example, a short music sound track , a simple interview with an art critic about a particular art work. The questions should be provided before the students listen, as this makes it easier to follow the text.

PRACTICE (Activity 2, 3, 4): The teacher presents some simple activities designed to give a deeper understanding about the text (music/artwork). To begin with, there are some simple vocabularly activities .  They are either in the form of a simple puzzle or a game, or a multiple choice task. This may be followed by some more complex questions about the text in the form of multiple choice or true/false questions. During the practice activities the teacher monitors the students who work individually, then compare answers with their partner/group. The teacher obtains the correct answers at the end of the activity. Generally there is a ratio of about 30:70 teacher talk time - teacher 30%, students 70% of the time.

PRODUCTION (Activity 5, 6): These activities are for freer practice. The students usually make or perform, ie they produce something themselves. For example, this could be the development of a simple percussion piece, or of a small artwork/line  drawing in the sand (at the Bruny Island Neck). They also provide their own peer assessment. This stage is based on the activities in the earlier part of the this learning outcome /lesson that they have listened to, or seen, including the vocabularly and practice activities. In this part there is a ratio of about 10:90 teacher talk time (TTT) versus student talk time (STT).
